There’s something incredibly special about photographing high school sweethearts. There’s a history between them that you can’t manufacture—a comfort, a friendship, and a quiet kind of knowing that only grows stronger with time. That’s exactly who Ali and Tim are.

These two are, without question, one of the sweetest couples you’ll ever meet. Spending the evening with them was so fun and felt like tagging along with two best friends who genuinely love making each other laugh. The way they cherish and support one another is so effortless that you almost forget there’s a camera present at all.

We planned their engagement session for one of those perfect autumn evenings in Pismo Beach, and somehow the light decided to show off. The golden glow was its own paid actor that day, wrapping around the ocean cliffs and dunes in Pismo Beach in the dreamiest way. Every turn seemed to give us another beautiful pocket of light, and all these two had to do was be themselves.

One of my favorite parts of engagement sessions is watching the nerves disappear. Those first few minutes always melt into laughter, side glances, hand squeezes, and the little moments couples don’t even realize they’re sharing. When I delivered their gallery, Ali sent me the sweetest message:

“Wow!!! ❤️ We couldn’t thank you enough for capturing our love. We are so excited for the wedding!! Seriously thank you so much for making it so easy and comfortable. We look so happy and natural—I love it!”

Reading those words made my heart so happy, because that’s exactly what I hope every couple feels. Not posed. Not performing. Just seen.

And after photographing their incredible Cayucos wedding later on, I can confidently say what was so evident during this engagement session was absolutely true: these two are made for each other.
