It's perfectly fitting and extra special when a family chooses a location for their session that is personal to them. A place they are vacationing, their favorite family hang-out spot, their home or family beach house. However, sometimes it's helpful to have recommendations. These are a few of my favorite spots here on the Central Coast.
When it comes to preparing and selecting outfits for your family photo session, I recommend choosing a color palette that everyone can work within. Gone are the days of trying to get everyone to wear the same colors and same outfits. Everything flows much more naturally when it's a collection of different styles of clothing, even patterns and textures, but works harmoniously within a color palette. I am a huge fan of natural tones, especially here at the beach or nestled in the foothills—it always looks so beautiful.
Here is a showcase of an array of family outfits for inspiration. With each photo, I've highlighted the color palette used. Note there is always wiggle-room within the colors—darker, lighter, more saturated, and inbetweens. Don't get too stuck and ridged in your color choices— added hues and shades of the same color block is a benefit.
