Here is to: two years of marriage! To a birthday! To adventuring across the country for a friends wedding! To… getting lost for 40 minutes in a poisonous oak infested forest with your’s truly… and not getting poison oak!! To opening letters for the first time standing on top of a mountain, letters they wrote to each other on their wedding day. To embracing love, friendship, joy, romance and the future walking hand in hand. I still can’t get over my time with Elise and Ryan last summer. They are pure gold and people you wish lived close so you could become best of friends with.
Last summer they were traveling to SLO for a friend’s wedding and Elise wanted to commence the occasion by getting some photographs made to celebrate them, their approaching anniversary and her birthday! There was one other thing she was also hoping to accomplish – they had written letters to each other that they had planned to open on their wedding day. As we are all very aware, wedding day plans and schedules can go out the window in a blink of an eye. Unfortunately, the moment of opening their letters from each other never happened that day. For two years they had the letters, still in their original envelopes, waiting to be opened. So she brought the envelopes with them across the country to surprise Ryan with during the photo shoot.
It was one of the sweetest moments in my career watching the two of them read their letters to each other. Just like listening to vows being stated during a wedding ceremony, I can’t help but reminisce on my own marriage and what it was like in that specific moment in time before we were married. Thinking about all that filled my head, my heart, my dreams, my hopes… how innocent and naive we were, but how beautiful our relationship and marriage has become and grown to be. It is such a beautiful reminder and I know it was the same for these two. Their joy in each other is so perfect and I have loved getting to know them, even from across the country now.
Here are a few of my favorite photographs from our time together last summer. Oh, and if by chance you are on the east coast and need a photographer, you should really check out Elise’s work. She is brilliant with a camera and an amazing human. You’ll love her. Ryan and Elise, you’re amazing. Thanks for the adventure and I’m so honored to have been able to meet you and be apart of this day with you. Please come visit again. Cheers + Love.
