Earlier this fall, I had the privilege of photographing Matt’s proposal to Brooke at Rava Winery. It was a moment full of excitement, nerves, and that unmistakable this-is-it kind of joy. This engagement session was their follow-up, and it felt like the perfect continuation of that story. We headed to Pismo Beach and embraced everything this stretch of the Central Coast does so beautifully.

Winter here has been generous with storms and gloom lately, but on this particular evening, the skies cleared, the winds softened, and the light showed up in the most gorgeous way. A calm ocean, pastel skies, and a golden sunset wrapping around us… it was one of those nights that reminds you just how magical this place can be. As I worked through their images afterward, I kept thinking the same thing over and over again: Pismo is still my favorite. What an epic backdrop to photograph love in.

Matt works on airplanes, and Brooke is an elementary school teacher — two careers rooted in care, passion, and heart. Brooke’s joy is absolutely infectious, and the way these two love, laugh, embrace, and play together kept me snapping away nonstop. Learning how they met (said in perfect unison: “Instagram!”), hearing their story unfold, and witnessing how deeply Matt cherishes Brooke leaves you with all the feels. Their connection is effortless and genuine, and being around them feels easy in the best of ways.

We explored some of my favorite spots along the coast, running barefoot through the sand, soaking in the views, and letting the evening unfold. It was such an honor to spend this time with them and to document this season of anticipation and excitement.

We don’t always get to pick our clients—but when they pick me, and it feels like this, you just feel lucky.
