This was such a fun engagement session. I met up with Raven and Collin at Avila Barn, where we moseyed through the fields and I got to hear stories about the two of them. Let me tell you, they instantly feel like old friends. Their wit and energy is something I absolutely love about the two of them—as well as Raven’s style (I want her wardrobe). Walking through the sunflowers, the apple orchard, and a pit stop by a tractor (Collin’s request), Avila Barn was the perfect first location for our time together.

With a quick wardrobe change, we headed to Avila Beach. One of the most unique aspects of their session was the sky. You can notice quickly that there is an unusual warmth in the colors of their images. That is because of the several dozen fires that were raging through the state; it was about a week after when the whole sky made CA look like mars.

Collin happens to be a firefighter and was home for this weekend when we photographed his and Raven’s engagement. While it’s normal I try to avoid photographing when the light is so amber from a sky filled with ash, it felt right to utilize this opportunity to document something that is a large part of their life. And it was absolutely beautiful.

Raven + Collin—you both are amazing and I absolutely love your relationship. I can’t wish you enough joy, laughter, and adventures as you walk into this next chapter!! Marriage is pretty dang grand. Also, don’t be a stranger. xoxo
